Rafting the Nile

Friday was Martyrs Day, a holiday in Uganda.  What better way to use a day off than spending it getting beat up by class 5 rapids on the Nile River?

Fortunately, the rafting company sends along a photographer in a kayak, so there is evidence of exactly how awesome this was.  And also documentation of the kinds of faces people make when clinging desperately to a raft.

Our raft - unofficially christened Mzungu Magic by our excellent guide, Nathan.

I inhaled a significant amount of the Nile.

My clinging ability became useful almost immediately.

This was possibly the most fun thing I've ever done

We saw a lot of birds, and even a flock of bats, along the way.  During the calm parts of the river, we got to enjoy the amazing scenery while we swam around near the raft.

And ate fresh pineapple (while being photographed, paparazzi style)

Don't worry, I'm still alive.
